Why You Want Your Spray Tan to Be Hands-On

With our cold winter days and rainy weather, a spray tan is the perfect pick-me-up. It may be gloomy outside, but your beautifully bronzed skin will be like a warming ray of sunshine! There are quite a few options when it comes to tanning applications but choosing the right one ensures your skin has an even glow that looks natural and lasts as long as possible.

It used to be that tanning beds were the choice for people who didn’t want to expose their skin to the sun’s harmful UV rays. However, it’s been shown that tanning beds also expose you to ultraviolet rays (particularly UVA rays) at an intensity that can put you at risk for different types of skin cancer, including melanoma. 

Then spray tanning came on the scene and grew in popularity. Gone were those problematic UV rays; instead, the tan was created with a temporary solution containing DHA (dihydroxyacetone). Sounds great, right? Well, what wasn’t so great was how the tanning solution was applied. You’d have to stand in a booth with nozzles aimed at you to spray the solution. It was your job to not stand too close or too far away from the nozzles, turn your body at the right times, AND avoid getting the spray in your nose and mouth—good luck getting an even tan (or a luxurious experience) with all that!
