How to Curate a Skincare Routine

Our facials enhance your complexion’s natural radiance–and using the right skincare products every day can keep that glow going in between your spa visits. Building a top-notch skincare regimen supports a healthy-looking complexion. Your skin appears more luminous, firmer, and supple when you use the right products.

But how do you know which skincare is right for you? Here are some of the key steps for building a routine that nourishes, protects, and beautifies your skin:

Know Your Skin Type

Understanding if your complexion is oily, dry, normal, combination, or sensitive is crucial to a successful skincare routine. If your skin is dry, you won’t want products designed to control oily complexions, and vice versa. And if you have sensitive skin, there are ingredients and products you’ll want to avoid so your complexion doesn’t get irritated or inflamed. We’re happy to consult with you if you’re unsure about your skin type. That way, you’re guaranteed to get products that support your skin so it looks its best.

Start With the Basics

Your routine can be as simplified or as complex as you’d like. If you have the time and inclination for a multi-step skincare regimen, that’s great, but a smaller collection of essentials works, too–as long as you have the right ones. Here’s what every routine should have:

  • Cleanser: You need to wash away the day’s dirt, makeup, and other impurities, creating a clean canvas for your other skincare products. A cleanser should be gentle (so it doesn’t strip away the skin’s natural oils) yet effective at removing buildup so your skin looks and feels refreshed. You can use a balm, gel, oil, or milky lotion, depending on your skin type.
  • Serum: This thin liquid glides onto your complexion for quick absorption. Serums can offer overall skin enhancement or target specific issues such as acne, anti-aging, or dark spots.
  • Moisturizer: The surface of the skin is covered by a moisture barrier that protects your complexion from environmental damage while also helping your skin look soft and smooth, with an even tone and texture. Moisturizer hydrates the skin barrier to keep your skin in the best possible condition. The texture can be lightweight or rich and creamy; you can also use day and night moisturizers with ingredients for a.m. (sunscreen) or p.m. (retinol).
  • Sunscreen: This one is non-negotiable because you need to protect your skin year-round. Look for at least SPF 30 with broad-spectrum coverage, either in your daytime moisturizer or in a standalone sunscreen product.

Add Your Favorite Extras

Once you’ve got your skincare foundation in place, you can build on it with products designed to meet specific needs. Some to consider:

  • Eye cream that reduces the appearance of puffiness or fine lines
  • Exfoliating masks with alpha hydroxy or beta hydroxy acids to clear away dead skin cells
  • Lip treatment to soften and plump
  • Face oil for extra hydration and radiance
  • Toner to rejuvenate skin after cleansing
  • Face mist for hydrating throughout the day
