The Power of Paraffin
Winter can be rough on our hands and feet—literally! Chapped hands and cracked heels are common in the dry weather. What Is Paraffin?
Paraffin is a type of color- and odor-free wax that you’re probably familiar with if you’ve ever had a deluxe manicure or pedicure. The wax is heated, and then an esthetician coats the hands and feet with it, often applying multiple layers for total immersion. Bags are wrapped around the hands and feet for a brief amount of time to let the paraffin work its magic.
Once the wax cools, it is peeled away, revealing wonderfully soft skin underneath. That’s because paraffin wax forms a barrier on the skin’s surface that retains moisture and prevents dryness. It also helps hydrate cuticles, softens calluses, and removes dead skin cells, which is great if your skin is already showing signs of rough, flaky patches.
You have to be careful if you try to apply paraffin on your own because it’s easy to get the paraffin too hot while you’re warming it up. That’s why it’s best to have this treatment done at a professional spa—and that’s where Firefly comes in!
