Relax and Enjoy Our Expanded Massage Services
Our clients love our massages–and now there’s even more to love! Firefly is known for its unique massage therapy program, where each treatment is customized using a blend of different techniques, depending on what each client needs, as well as blissful enhancements like cupping or hot stone. And now, our talented therapists are offering new techniques to induce deep relaxation!
Myofascial Release / Trigger Point Therapy
Myofascial is a type of tissue in the body that supports the muscles. If these tissues tighten up, that restricts movement in the joints and muscles, which can lead to pain. Myofascial release targets those stiff spots (often called trigger points, which is why this technique is also called trigger point therapy) and loosens them up to ease the pain and afford greater movement.
Your therapist will work on the tissues not just in the affected area, but throughout the body to relieve tension all over. This technique is typically used to alleviate chronic pain in the back and neck.
Craniosacral
This is a gentle therapy that offers powerful benefits! The focus here is on the central nervous system, and promoting an elevated sense of well-being by relieving tension in the network of connective tissue that runs throughout your body. Because these tissues affect everything from the brain to the nerves to the spinal cord, craniosacral therapy can have a profound impact on your health and wellness.
Light massage strokes are used to help you de-stress as you feel tension melt away. People use craniosacral massage to help with a variety of issues, including chronic headaches, fibromyalgia, temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome, and more.
IASTM (Gua Sha)
Gua sha is an East Asian version of IASTM, which stands for Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. As you can guess by the name, the therapist uses a tool, which can be jade or stainless steel, to manipulate the body instead of their hands.
Gua sha takes the traditional Chinese concept of qi as its guiding light, and the therapist uses the instrument to release blocked qi from different areas of the body, which can reduce pain and promote a healthier sense of well-being. A scraping-style movement is used to apply pressure, and that can help decrease tissue buildup that may be caused by overuse or repetitive injuries like carpal tunnel. Some research indicates IASTM can help with perimenopause symptoms, athletic recovery, pain from constant computer use, and back pain in older adults. Because of the nature of this treatment, some temporary bruising can occur.
All of our massage therapists are highly trained and work one-on-one with you to find the techniques that will help your body feel its best.
